Meet Corneal Associates of NJ’s Newest Cataract, Cornea, & Refractive Surgeon, Sana Qureshi M.D.

August 25, 2022

What made you want to join the OOMC Family?

I love the collegiality and friendliness of everyone at OOMC. I am excited to join a team that through its tradition of excellence will help me provide exceptional patient care alongside outstanding colleagues and specialists.

Why did you decide to pursue a career as a Cornea, Cataract and Refractive Surgeon?

The subspecialty of cornea includes the medical and surgical management of corneal disease, cataract surgery, and refractive surgery. I love the breadth and depth of problems that we see on a daily basis in the clinic. Corneal and refractive surgery is elegant and capitalizes on some of the most advanced surgical technology to restore sight for our patients. The most rewarding aspect of corneal, cataract, and refractive surgery is the near immediate and tangible outcomes for our patients. It is not uncommon for a patient to be able to recognize only shadows before cataract surgery and minutes later clearly see the faces of their medical team as they leave the operating room.

What procedures do you perform?

I perform cataract surgery, corneal transplants, crosslinking, and refractive surgery.

What are some of the most unique cornea and refractive cases you have witnessed?

While each case is unique, I have found trauma cases to be the most challenging and rewarding. The journey of rehabilitation after corneal or lens trauma is difficult and emotional, but it is a privilege to be able to care for and support a patient on their road to recovery.

What is your favorite type of surgery to perform?

Refractive surgery! Independence from corrective lenses is a game changer – it certainly was for me when I had it done. I want others to be able to wake up in the morning and see without needing to reach for their glasses or contacts.

What do you like to do when you are not at the office?

I love spending time with my husband and rambunctious 2-year-old son. We like exploring parks and the local food scene.
