King of Prussia, PA – As more businesses start to reopen amid the coronavirus outbreak, elective procedures such as LASIK eye surgery are back on the books.

Kremer Eye Center, with 8 offices throughout Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware, is navigating some changes as it prepares to serve more individuals. For the last few weeks, only emergency patients and necessary post-surgical follow-up appointments were being seen in the office. Dr. Michael Aronsky says these new changes are being made with the safety and wellbeing of staff and patients in mind.

As of 5/18/20, all of Kremer’s offices are back to normal schedules seeing regular patient appointments as well as performing both medical and refractive surgeries.

Below is a list of the safety protocols Kremer Eye Center has put in place:

• Pre-Registration Made Easy – Prior to the day of the appointment, every patient will receive a link to pre-register to make the process much smoother and save time.  If patient pre-registers, it will give the patient and staff the ability to communicate via text.

• Curbside Check-In – They are offering curbside check-in for all patients. Once a patient arrives, a staff member will meet them at the door and collect any needed information. Patients will then receive a text when ready to be seen.

• Temperature Check/Pre-Screen Questionnaire – Every person who visits a Kremer Eye Center facility will be pre-screened before entry is allowed. This will include a temperature check and a brief health questionnaire including COVID-19 questions. This applies to all patients, visitors, and staff.

• Masks – All patients and office personnel are required to wear masks while inside the building.

• Limited Guests – They are limiting guests in facilities and will only allow family members to enter with patients if there is a medical reason.

• Cleaning Equipment– Before and after each patient, staff will be sanitizing equipment. They have protective shields on all slit lamps and other equipment for extra protection.

• Hand Sanitizer Stations – At each facility entrance we will have a hand sanitizer station. Patients are required to use the hand sanitizer.

• Waiting Rooms – All waiting room chairs are spread out at least 6 feet apart. All doors are propped open to avoid patients or staff having to touch doorknobs.

• Telehealth & Virtual LASIK Consults – Kremer is continuing with Telemedicine for both refractive and medical patients for individuals who prefer to be seen from the comfort of their homes.

The Kremer team has been seeing both medical and refractive patients via telemedicine over the last few weeks. Telemedicine has allowed our doctors to determine which patients may be a good candidate for vision correction surgery as well as allowing our doctors to triage medical patients. The eye center says although they are opening back up to the public, telemedicine will be staying. This will allow the office to have fewer people sitting in a waiting room.

Before patients arrive to the office, we are asking they pre-register to save time. This will include a pre-screen questionnaire. When patients arrive at the office, they will be greeted by a staff member outside for curbside check-in to eliminate overcrowding in the waiting areas. At this point, the patient will receive a temperature check. Every person in the office (doctors, staff and patients) are required to wear a face mask while inside the building. There are hand sanitizer stations at each entrance as well as in exam rooms. There are protective shields on slit lamps as well as other testing devices for extra protection.

Many of the most important aspects of an eye exam can only be done in person. It’s why these safety measures are being taken so seriously during the pandemic.
