Dr. George Pronesti, Medical Director of Kremer Eye Center, is leading a group of doctors on a mission trip to Ait Bogumez – a tiny, remote region in the mountains of Morocco with little access to healthcare.
Along with Dr. Pronesti, Dr. Ayan Chatterjee and Dr. Aaron Cohn will provide cataract and glaucoma surgery to individuals in need. There will also be doctors providing plastic/facial surgery, dentistry and Internal Medicine.
Due to the remote location of Ait Bogumez within Morocco, there are neither facilities with the equipment and instruments needed to perform these surgeries nor personnel such as nurses and techs to assist in the surgeries.
As you can imagine, the cost will be daunting, therefore we are asking for donations to help cover the costs which could easily exceed $30,000. Donations of any amount would be greatly appreciated and would help us to offer care where none has been given before. Every dollar will go directly toward this effort and we will document the entire process so our donors can witness our mutual accomplishments. After the trip, some of the equipment will be donated to try and start a site for ongoing eye care.
The trip is planned for May of 2022.
