Dr. Erik A. Chotiner is a board-certified ophthalmologist and leading refractive cataract surgeon with extensive experience in advanced vision correction procedures. A Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Franklin and Marshall College and recipient of the Hackman Scholarship, Dr. Chotiner earned his medical degree from Jefferson Medical College, where he received multiple honors for academic excellence, including the prestigious Thomas D. Duane Research Fellowship Award in Ophthalmology.
He completed his ophthalmology residency at Temple University in Philadelphia, training alongside faculty from both Temple University and Wills Eye Hospital. Following residency, he pursued subspecialty fellowship training in LASIK, cataract, and corneal surgery at the Shiley Eye Institute at the University of California, San Diego.
Dr. Chotiner has performed tens of thousands of cataract procedures and is recognized for his expertise in advanced refractive cataract surgery designed to reduce or eliminate dependence on glasses after surgery. He pioneered laser-assisted cataract surgery in Central Pennsylvania and performed the first procedure of its kind in the region. In addition to cataract surgery, he is highly experienced in LASIK and implantable contact lens surgery.
Throughout his career, Dr. Chotiner has been actively involved in physician education. He has helped train ophthalmology residents locally and has contributed to national teaching efforts at the American Academy of Ophthalmology annual meeting.
Dr. Chotiner is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and the World College of Refractive Surgery and Visual Sciences. He is an active member of multiple national ophthalmic organizations and remains committed to advancing surgical excellence and patient care in vision correction.
Dr. Chotiner lives in the Harrisburg area with his wife, Robyn. They have two children who are both currently in college. Outside of medicine, he enjoys tennis, golf, skiing, Broadway theater, live music, and professional sporting events.
