Dr. Stephen Wigginton specializes in the medical, surgical, and laser treatment of Glaucoma and Cataracts. A board-certified Ophthalmologist and fellowship-trained Glaucoma Surgeon, providing care for our patients primarily at the Hagerstown Location.

With over 23 years of experience Dr. Wigginton works side-by side with our team of doctors providing the following services to our patients:

• Cataract Surgery
• Comprehensive Ophthalmology

Born in Augusta, GA, he went to college at the University of Maryland, College Park, and received a double major Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry and Biochemistry.  He went on to attend graduate school at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana and received a Master of Science degree in Pharmacology and Toxicology.  Wanting to be closer to home, he matriculated to The George Washington University School of Medicine in Washington DC and graduated with distinction in May 1995.  The residency match placed him at The Jules Stein Eye Institute at UCLA in Los Angeles, studying ophthalmology.  Dr. Wigginton decided to do a fellowship in glaucoma in Baltimore with one of the world’s leading glaucoma specialists, Dr. Alan Robin, MD, who had been responsible for saving Stephen’s father’s vision during an attack of angle closure glaucoma years earlier, and who had recommended Stephen pursue ophthalmology during medical school.  Dr. Wigginton has practiced in Fort Worth, Texas, and in Long Beach, California.

Dr. Wigginton has many publications and Honors, he also enjoys lecturing at seminars as well as educating those in the field of advancements in the Glaucoma field.   

A few interesting things to know about Dr. Wigginton is that he grew up on West 13th Street in North Frederick, MD and attended Governor Thomas Johnson Senior High School.  In his spare time he enjoys cooking and has even taken culinary school classes in baking deserts. He loves eating deserts as well!   Dr. Wigginton is an avid biker, and rides his bike often for exercise. He is also fluent in Dutch and is currently studying Spanish now.  Dr. Wiggnton loves learning new languages.
