Dr. Stephen Wigginton specializes in the medical, surgical, and laser treatment of Glaucoma and Cataracts. He is a board-certified ophthalmologist and a fellowship-trained glaucoma surgeon. He is providing care for our patients primarily at the Hagerstown Location.

With over 23 years of experience Dr. Wigginton works side-by side with our team of doctors providing the following services to our patients:

• Cataract Surgery
• Comprehensive Ophthalmology

Born in Augusta, GA, he attended the University of Maryland and received a double degree, Bachelor of Science in Chemistry and Biochemistry. Following college he received a Master of Science degree in Pharmacology and Toxicology from Purdue University. Subsequently, he attended The George Washington University School of Medicine in Washington DC and graduated with distinction in May 1995. He completed his residency in ophthalmology in 1999 at The Jules Stein Eye Institute at UCLA in Los Angeles. Dr. Wigginton continued his training by completing a fellowship in glaucoma in Baltimore with one of the world’s leading glaucoma specialists, Alan Robin, MD. Dr. Robin was responsible for saving Dr. Wigginton’s father’s vision during an attack of angle closure glaucoma years earlier. Dr. Wigginton has practiced in Fort Worth, Texas, and in Long Beach, California.

Dr. Wigginton is a prolific author having his work published many times and has received many honors. He also enjoys lecturing at seminars, educating those in the eyecare field of advancements in the care and treatment of patients with glaucoma.

A few interesting things to know about Dr. Wigginton is that he grew up on West 13th Street in North Frederick, MD and attended Governor Thomas Johnson Senior High School.  In his spare time he enjoys cooking and has even taken culinary school classes in baking desserts. He loves eating desserts as well!   Dr. Wigginton is an avid biker, and rides his bike often for exercise. He is also fluent in Dutch and is currently studying Spanish now.  Dr. Wiggnton loves learning new languages.
