How Much Does LASIK Eye Surgery Cost?

The cost of LASIK eye surgery can vary based on your eyes’ specific needs, where you live throughout the country, and the surgery center where your LASIK procedure is performed.

At OOMC, we help alleviate some of these costs by providing a free LASIK consultation. Moreover, OOMC has over 20 practices across the northeastern United States.

At a LASIK consultation appointment, we’ll discuss your options and what you can expect cost-wise once we learn a little more about your eyes’ needs.

If you’re a good candidate for LASIK, many of our practices will create a map of your eye using iDESIGN^®, which produces a 3D image to show us your eyes’ visual pathways and how they process light.

This much visual detail lets us see any imperfections more clearly. From here, we develop a treatment plan based on this 3D image, which allows us to address your eyes’ needs more accurately and quickly during the procedure.

What’s Included in the Cost of LASIK Eye Surgery?

LASIK eye surgery costs can include the initial consultation, although a consultation is free at OOMC. At this consultation, a doctor will determine if you’re a good candidate for LASIK.

At OOMC, we work in conjunction with your current doctor, so you get personalized care that aligns with your current doctor’s treatment goals.

Your LASIK eye surgery will also include an oral sedative, if you need one, provided before your surgery and the procedure itself. Many patients do fine without an oral sedative.

When your procedure is finished, you’ll receive goggles to protect your eyes and you’ll head home.

Follow-up visits with your doctor are important to LASIK eye surgery recovery. We can provide all postoperative care for the first year after surgery. Your doctor will check your eyes’ progress and ensure everything goes smoothly.

Will My Insurance Cover LASIK?

Most insurance does not cover LASIK. It’s often seen as an elective procedure, which means insurance companies may not cover it. This is often due to other vision options available, like glasses and contacts.

Check with your vision insurance provider, if you have one. Every insurance plan is different. Some insurance plans have discounts for LASIK, even if they don’t cover it entirely.

You can also use funds from a Flexible Spending Account (FSA) or a Health Savings Account (HSA) to pay for LASIK eye surgery.

LASIK eye surgery can be deducted from your taxes, including any associated costs, like prescriptions and postoperative care. Ask an accountant or tax expert if you have questions about deductions.

Other Costs Associated With LASIK Eye Surgery

When you have LASIK eye surgery, you’ll likely need to take a day or two off to rest and recover. Your doctor can recommend the time off required based on your specific surgery.

Additionally, as your eyes recover during this time, it can help to have easy meals or quick foods available for you to make.

After your surgery, your doctor will prescribe antibiotic eye drops. Insurance will likely cover this medication; however, you may have a copay, as with other medications.
