June 07, 2024

description

LASIK eye surgery is a common vision correction procedure that can help you see better without using glasses. Many people considering LASIK eye surgery want to know more about how to prepare for the procedure and what to expect.

The team at OOMC is here to help. Our eye doctors have put together this page to help you learn a little more about what to expect from LASIK eye surgery and how to prepare.

How to Prepare For LASIK Eye Surgery

When considering LASIK eye surgery, your doctor will want to perform an eye exam. Be sure to skip contacts before this exam. We will make a 3D map of your eye structure using 3D mapping technology for more precision during your surgery.

Before your procedure, check with our office to confirm the costs you may be responsible for. This should include the procedure cost for each eye and eye drops.

Did you know that most people go back to work the day after undergoing LASIK eye surgery? Each individual recovers differently, but it is very likely that you’ll return to your normal routine the following day.

What to Expect on the Day Of LASIK Eye Surgery

On the day of your LASIK eye surgery, arrive for your procedure in comfortable clothes. Do not apply any makeup, hair spray, or wear earrings on the day of your procedure or the day before.

You’ll want to make sure you have someone to take you home after surgery. They can accompany you when you arrive for surgery and wait during your procedure. Expect to be with us for a few hours. You will go home the same day.

Your doctor will provide medication to help you relax and apply eyedrops to numb your eyes before your procedure. They will be by your side for the duration of the procedure and walk you through it, so you know what to expect.

What to Expect When Recovering From LASIK Eye Surgery

After surgery, you can go home and rest. You will likely need to limit yourself to light activities. You may experience some discomfort during this time. Your doctor will provide you with medication to take during your recovery; taking this medication can help with recovery and prevent infection.

The next day, you will return to your regular eye doctor or one of our offices for a follow-up appointment. Your doctor will check how your eyes are healing and ask you some questions about how you’re feeling. They will also provide you with recovery instructions based on your specific treatment needs. Refrain from applying makeup or creams for about two weeks after surgery.
