To learn more about Dr. Gupta and the innovative treatments she can perform, read our sit-down interview with her below.

What made you want to join the OOMC family?

RG: I grew up in New Jersey and lived in several different parts of the country due to my medical training. Although I enjoyed working in Boston, I wanted to move to New Jersey and be closer to family and friends. I joined OOMC because the staff were encouraging and supportive with fostering an environment that will allow me to treat more cornea specific ocular diseases. At the omni eye group, I will be seeing cornea specific diseases, cataract patients, and offer refractive services for individuals interested in LASIK, PRK, and/or Phakic intraocular lens.

Why did you decide to pursue a career in Ophthalmology?

RG: My interest started from working on a research project in ophthalmology at Washington University in St. Louis during my medical training. The research focused on the causes of cataract formation after vitreo-retinal surgery. Our goal was to explore possible modalities of preventing cataract formation which is the leading cause of blindness worldwide. I knew at that moment that I wanted a career in ophthalmology to better understand and possibly explore avenues to help treat ocular blindness.  Also, I enjoyed the clinical and surgical aspect of ocular diseases. So far, the best decision that I made.

What advice do you have for patients considering LASIK or other vision correction procedures?

RG: I think there are plenty of myths on the internet and media about refractive surgery. Patients that are interested in minimizing their dependence on contact lenses and/or glasses should attempt to have a LASIK consultation to discuss options. It’s extremely important to get an evaluation from a trusted entity to get the best recommendation for treatment.

How do you think the industry has advanced since you started and where do you see it going in the future?

RG: There have been tremendous improvements in the quality of intraocular lens, refractive lenses, and corneal procedures to give our patients the best visual outcomes. There are plenty of advancements in technology that make our current cataract, cornea, and refractive procedures safer and efficient. With time, I hope we can offer surgical and medical treatment for patients with low vision potential because of corneal scarring, optic nerve damage, or retinal damage.

What do you like to do when you’re not at the office with patients?

RG: I love traveling and learning about different culture, exploring different types of food. I also enjoy spending time with friends and family.

Whether you need cataract surgery, cornea treatments or are interested in vision correction surgery such as LASIK, Dr. Gupta and the entire team at OOMC will work with you to make sure you will see as clearly as possible.
